ANGIOLOGY

Angiology, Vascular and Endovascular Surgery is the medical-surgical specialty responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the circulatory system, an extensive network of “pipes” whose mission is to deliver blood, and with it oxygen and nutrients to all the cells of our body and return it back to the heart.

The arteries carry blood from the heart to the cells in all corners of our body and the veins return it back to the heart, where a new cycle begins. We must not forget the lymphatic vessels, whose mission is somewhat different, but closely related to the arterial and venous systems.

All these “pipes” are living structures and their diseases have a direct impact on the organ to which they carry the blood supply and even on the entire body. Myocardial infarction, cerebral embolism and pulmonary thromboembolism are some of the main causes of death in our civilization, and all of them are due to a vascular problem.
